Form Follows Function is important. This is the basis for the design industry. Whether it is a building, automobile or an interior of a house the function determines the design. So what does it mean? An Interior designer asks lots of questions. She or he is determining how a space should function. Who lives here, what are you doing in this room? What are you storing and how much? What is the environment around the space that might impact how it needs to function? Do you really cook or just want a magazine looking kitchen?
These are all part of the puzzle of designing a space that meets the needs of a client. Learning to ask the right questions and creating the right space that works for the client is all a result of the education, and experience a good designer brings to the table.
You can tell when a designer has created a space by the feel of the room when you walk into it. It is aesthetically pleasing; it flows from wall to wall and room to room. The Interior space most importantly reflects the personality of the client but functions in the way they work, play or sleep in the space.
